Living in Wellington

Wellington has the advantage of small town living with close proximity to the major metropolitan city of Wichita. Wellington is easy to find, located just a few miles off the Kansas Turnpike I-35 in Sumner County.

Founded: 1871
Population: 8650
Elevation: 1230 ft
School District: USD 353
ZIP Code: 67152
Area Code: 620

Wellington was first surveyed on April 4, 1871 and named for the Duke of Wellington. It was designated as the permanent county seat of Sumner County in 1872. Today, Wellington is a thriving community looking eagerly into the 21st Century. The main business street in Wellington, Washington, runs along a ridge above the valley of Slate Creek and has several interesting turn-of-the-century buildings.

• The downtown area offers pleasant shopping in a variety of stores.
• The city lake west of town has extensive parks and campgrounds.
• The Memorial Auditorium downtown is an impressive memorial to the veterans of World War I.
• The golf course along US 160 is considered one of the state's best.

Wellington is served by Interstate 35, Highways US 81 & US 160, and an excellent airport.
